endurance

The Endurance was an ice breaking ship that set sailed in 1914 for an Antarctic expedition fronted by Ernest Shackleton.  The ship was crusted by ice and Shackleton and his crew were stranded in the ice and water. The captain and his crew manage to survive the event, but were forever altered by it. The video below is a clip taken from 16mm footage of the sea during the journey that I re-appropriated from a documentary. The sculpture and video installation was created during my pregnancy in anticipation of birth and motherhood, and grounded in feminist and maternal research. My intention is for the pile of books grow and change as my maternal expedition continues.
